Astro Empires

What is Astro Empires?

Astro Empires is an MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game), which you can play in your internet web browser.
Astro Empires is strategical space game, you build bases, space fleets, research new technologies, fight battles, make alliances, and much more.
You start at your home planet, from there you can build your own Empire. The universe is yours. You write the history.

How can I play Astro Empires?

All that is required to play Astro Empires is a web browser and an internet connection.

What does a persistent universe mean?

Astro Empires is played in a persistent universe. This means that Astro Empires is open around the clock, 7 days a week. Whether you are online or not, time never stops. When you're offline, your bases and fleets stay in the world and continue to perform the orders you've allocated to them.

How long will the Astro Empires game last?

We anticipate a long life for Astro Empires game, and we will always try to improve the game. However, if there comes a time when we feel it necessary to restart or even close the game, we promise to give you as much notice as we possibly can.

Can I have more than one account?

Only one account per game server is allowed.
If you share the same computer/IP address with someone, just play on a different game server, or request a IP share permission (you will need to comply with some rules).

Upgraded Account

I have just created a game account, but I noticed that it will expire in few days. What does that mean?

Every new game account starts off with an account upgrade lasting 7 days. After those seven days, the account turns into a free account unless the owner of the account (or anyone else) upgraded it beforehand.

After my upgrade expires what happens?

After your account upgrade expires your account becomes a free account, free accounts shows advertising and are limited in some features, compare here.

Do I lose my bases above 9, or my advanced structures above level 5 if my account upgrade expires?

No, you get to keep what you already have, but you cannot build any more bases or advanced structures than their current number/level.

How does Upgrading an account work?

Upgrading will improve your gameplay, removing site advertising and add extra features to your account.
See the upgrade page for more information.

This is needed in order to ensure the long term success and sustainabliity of the Astro Empires game, to the benefit of all players.
This allows us to have fast and reliable servers, remove most game limits, and help us to improve this game.

Which payment processors you are using?

We accept payments via PayPal, a third party payment processor, which allows you to safely use your credit card to upgrade your account.
It is also possible to pay 6 or 12 months, via Wire Transfer, using Western Union, or by mail.

I don’t have a Paypal account, but I have a credit card, how can I upgrade?

When you checkout via Paypal you don’t need to have a Paypal account, you can simply enter your credit card information at some point and pay that way.

What are the upgrade prices in US Dollars or other currencies?

To convert Euros into other currencies, please check on the internet, for example on this website: http://www.xe.com/.

Can I pay with U.S. Dollars instead of Euros?

When you pay via Paypal the payments are converted automatically from your currency to Euros.

I’m having problem upgrading via Paypal, what can I do?

Try to contact Paypal directly if you are having problem with your credit card, for example. If you are still unable to upgrade, you can pay by alternative ways such as wire transfer or Western Union (available at most post offices).

How long takes to I get my account upgraded after the payment?

If you pay using your Paypal account or credit card via Paypal, the account upgrade takes place immediatly after payment.
If you pay by paypal eCheck, those payments takes about 4 business days to clear from a U.S. bank, payments from a non-U.S. bank usually takes more time.
If you pay via wire transfer the account upgrade takes about 1 or 2 business days.
If you pay via Western Union the account upgrade takes about 1 or 2 business days.

I have upgraded, but my account still has not received the upgrade.

If you have upgraded via Paypal eCheck, those payments take several days to clear, try to check your Paypal account on that. If you have not tried to upgrade via Paypal eCheck please contact us.

My account upgrade expiration date is not correct.

This is most probably because you understand a different date format, for example 05-10-2007, mean day 5 of October 2007, as this is the date format (day-month-year) used in most European Countries including Portugal where the game is established. In the US and other far-western countries, the date goes month-day-year.

Are credit card payments charged recurringly?

The payments are one-time; they do not recur.

Can I split upgrade time between game accounts?

No, is not possible.

How do I upgrade a friend’s game account?

Just go at that player's profile page and click on the link “Upgrade this account” and follow all the steps to upgrade via Paypal.

I like the game, how can I donate towards it?

By upgrading your account you are already helping the game's development. If you want to donate more, upgrade another player's account.

Can I pay real money for in game credits?

No. AE does not run such a system.

Game Account

How can I change my account password or email?

Go to your game account page and click on “Profile”, then at your profile page click on “Edit Account Profile”.

Can I share the one account with my brother and or friend?

No. Account sharing is explicitly forbidden in AE for it is seen as unfair.

How can I delete my game account?

Go at your account page, and click on “Delete Account”.

Can I transfer upgrade time from one game account to other game account?

No, is not possible (the only exception is when you delete your account to restart on a new one, see bellow).

I want to restart, how can I do that?

You can delete your game account and then start a new one in the same server. If you have upgraded your account, you can contact us with both accounts numbers (the deleted account and the new one) requesting to transfer the remaining upgrade time between accounts.
Important: Transfer upgrade time between accounts is only possible if you restart in the same server.

Can I start over with my current technology/credits?

No. Is not possible to restart with your current credits or technology, you can only restart with a complete new account.

Recruiting Players

If I advertise this game to others, will I receive something?

If you give someone your recruit link (found in Account -> Recruits) and they sign up for the game, they become a recruit of yours. If any of your recruits upgrade their accounts (or someone else upgrades it for them), you will be given a bonus of 10% of your economy in credits, which is given at 00:00 server time. The 7-day trial upgrade does not count towards this bonus. The recruit must also join the same game server as your recruit link's account for you to get the bonus.

I have recruited a friend to game, but he is not displayed as my recruit.

A player must join the game by using your recruit link for them to become your recruit, and in the same server.

Can I request to Astro Empires stuff change a player to be my recruit as I tell him about the game?

Sorry, no. He must join using your recruit link, or he will not be your recruit.

Guilds

What's a Guild?

A Guild is a group of players within the same organization, run by players themselves. It could be democratic, anarchistic, totalitarian, etc. Any player can join a guild for whatever reasons, and more simply a guild can just be a group of friends.
Each guild is supposed to provide mutual protection for all it's members from where the players in the guild and a place where they can draw support and assistance from the other players (guildees, as they are often referred to).

How do I join a guild?

To join a guild you need to go at that guild profile, and click on "Request to join this guild".
Then your request must be accepted by a member of that guild with powers to accept new members.

Do I have to be a certain level to join a guild?

Whatever your level, there is no limitation when applying for a guild. Some guilds, however, will not accept members below a certain threshold.
You are unable to apply to join a guild if you are already in one.

There is any limit of number of members in a guild?

The guilds are limited to 250 members.

What does the inactivity column mean at the guild page?

The numbers in the column represents the last time a player accessed that server.
example: an inactivity of 30 min they last accessed the game 30 minutes ago.

When defending a guild members base, will his defenses and/or command centers assist you in defending?

Base defences assist the base's owner, but not members of the guild that player is in. The same applies to command centers.

Bases

How do I get more energy at my base?

To increase the amount of energy your base has, build energy facilities (usually known as power plants) such as solar plants, gas plants and fusion plants. These all increase the base's energy. You can also build antimatter plants, which provide a large amount of energy compared to the other energy facilities.

Why can’t I build anything?

If you can’t build anything, then you are either out of population, energy or land. To increase population build more Urban Centers and Orbital Bases; for energy build different plants and for land build Terraforms and Multi-Level Platforms.

I don’t see the structure Crystal Mines on my building screen. Why is that so?

Your planet doesn't have any crystals on it (only Crystallines, Asteroids, Craters, and Metallics do).

If I make a Biosphere Modification, does it affect the Urban Structure I already have?

It gives you the bonus for every Urban Structure you already have.

How can I decrease a level of my building?

To decrease your buildings you need to click on the name of the building on your construction screen. You will then be given a list of the costs to build each level and an option to disband one level, you will get 50% of the cost back as a discount in the price of your next base.

I disbanded a base but didn’t receive any credits.

You do not receive credits for disbanding bases; instead, the credits go into a discount which is taken away from the cost of your next base. You can view this discount in your game Account page.

I downgrade a structure/defense base but didn’t receive any credits.

Works just like the above 'I disbanded a base didn't receive any credits'.

Can I disband my home planet?

Yes, it’s no different than disbanding any other base, however you must have always at least one base.

Why my construction or my other events don’t update, they keep having the "–"?

When the server is to busy, the game events (construction, production, research, fleets arrive, etc..) can take some time to update.
This also occurs after a server downtime, but all will be back to normal in seconds or minutes.

Why my game events (construction, etc..) keep restarting there times?

Probably you are seeing an old page saved in your browser cache, which is not updated, try to select on your browser options to always load the web pages instead of display pages saved in your browser cache.

Why I can’t see my bases or fleets on the galaxy map?

Check if you are seeing the galaxy where you have your bases/fleets, if not change the galaxy you want to see.
If this is not the problem, check your browser options to see if the JavaScript is active.

Do I get the same credits disbanding the base at once, or I should downgrade the buildings before disbanding?

You will get the same amount of credits (in discount on the next base construction) in both ways, so the first is recommended for commodity.

Colonization

How much do bases cost?

Every base you build will cost you twice the amount the one before it did. This is a never ending rule that just keeps on increasing to infinity. However if you delete one of your bases the next one will cost 25% the cost it would have.
Bases Prices: 50 - 100 - 200 - 400 - 800 - 1600 - 3200 - 6400 - 12800 - 25600 - 51200 - 102400 - etc

What decides a good planet to colonize from a bad planet?

This entirely depends on what you are looking for the astro to do; production of fleet (production), boosting your economy, research, etc.
For economy, you should be aiming for either an Asteroid or a Crystalline, though the latter is generally rare and hard to find.
If it's a production base you want, Rockies are the best, though Metallics and Craters fill this role well too.
Usually you'll want to use a Gaia, Earthly or Arid for research bases, due to their large area and high fertility, though they suit most tasks pretty well.

How can I build another base on an empty planet?

If you want to build another base, build at an outpost ship. After you have a good location for the base, move the outpost ship (it's usually good to escort the outpost ship with some ships) to where you want the base. Go into the fleet where the outpost ship is, and click 'Build base'.

Do I lose my Outpost Ship when I build a new base?

Yes, an Outpost Ship is only usable to build one base.

Trade

How do I get more trade routes?

You’ll get more trade routes by building Spaceports. Spaceports increase the available amount of trades for your base by one at levels 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and so forward. Also, each Spaceport increases your base’s economy by 2 credits per hour.

How is a trade income calculated?

Sqrt(lowest base's income) x ( 1 + Sqrt(distance)/75 + Sqrt(Players)/10 )
Players = number of players your trade with.

Can I trade with myself?

Yes you can and there is no real disadvantage to it other than you only count as one trading partner. When you trade with yourself you will get twice as much for the trade route but it will take up two slots, one of each planet.

How do I boost the income from trade routes?

These are the main points that would serve you here:
- Increasing the economy of the bases involved in the trade route.
- Increasing the distance between the bases.
- Increasing the total number of different players you trade with.

How can I pillage trade routes?

Go into your fleet, and click 'Piracy', but in order to pillage a base's trade routes, you must have a fleet at that base, and there must be no enemy (base owner's, base owner's fellow guild members or fleets of the owner of the other end of the route) fleets at the base. The base's defences play no part in the pillaging of trade routes.

Fleets

How do I build fleets?

To build fleets (ships) at a base, there must be at least one level of shipyards, and you must have researched at least one level of the Laser technology. This much will allow you to build fighters, the cheapest ship. More expensive and stronger ships require a higher level of shipyards and technologies to be produced.

I have the tech researched for a ship but can’t build it! Why not?

You must not have enough shipyards requirements at that base.

What does fleet size mean?

The 'fleet size' is the cost in credits of every ship in the fleet added together. For example, 500 fighters (which cost 5 credits each) will have a fleet size of 2500.

How do I move my fleets?

Once you have ships that are capable of moving on their own (Corvettes being the first), go to Fleets, click on the fleet you want. Put in valid coordinates and choose the amount of each type of ship you want to move, then click 'Move'.

How do I move fighters from base to base?

In order to move all hangar-requiring ships (fighters, bombers, heavy bombers and ion bombers), they must be moved along with ships that have a hangar capacity. However, there is a limitation to the number of hangar units can be moved.
For example, a carrier has a hangar capacity of 60. Therefore, up to 60 fighters/bombers or 30 heavy bombers/ion bombers can be moved along with it.
To move the hangar units along with the carrier or whatever, just say how many you want to move and they'll move as well. You can also click the 'Hangar' link to move the maximum number of carrier units as possible.

How do I use jump gates?

To use one of your or one of your guildmate's jump gates, simply put the fleet you want to move to the astro with the jump gate and send the fleet somewhere - the game does everything else for you.

My fleets in transit can I redirect it?

No. Once a fleet is put in transit you have only two options; let it continue to its destination or recall it to its location of origin.

If one of my bases is occupied, can I build fleet there and can I move that fleet?

Yes, you can do both. This is to allow the occupied player the ability to fight back against the occupation and potentially free themselves.
Note that when a base is occupied, it's production is cut by a half and it's economy, research and construction is reduced by a 30%.

Commanders

How are names determined for Commanders when you recruit them?

All names are randomly generated, but you can rename your Commanders.

I have a commander at a base but it has no effect, why is this?

You must assign commanders to be Base Commander of a base in order for their effect to take place.

What exactly does dismissing commanders do?

It's just like demolishing structures or decommissioning fleet, though you do not gain any of your credits or XP back.

Do commanders use jump gates?

When you are moving a commander to another base, they use a jump gate if there is one available.
Note that you must de-assign a commander before moving them.

Attacks on Bases

What happens to my base if someone attacks it?

If your base is attacked, the structures will suffer no damage. However, your base defences and any fleet you have at that base will attempt to protect your base, and can be destroyed (does not include defenses) or damaged.
If the attack is successful, they occupy your base they recieve 30% of your base's income each hour. You do, however, still have full control over the base.

How is pillage calculated?

At a players base: (number of hours since last pillage; max 100)% * (Base Economy/Total Bases Economy) * Base Owner Credits
At a NPC base: Pillage = (number of hours since last pillage – max 100)% * Base Economy * 25
Additional Pillage bonus: ½ * (base actual income-new income) * (base actual income-new income)/2 * 24

How is experience calculated?

If the enemy level is above your level: XP = (enemy/your level) /20 * Total Fleet destroyed
If your level is above the enemy level: XP = (enemy/your level)^2 /20 * Total Fleet destroyed

After occupation ends, how does a base get back the economy it lost?

It regenerates by 2 credits per day automatically until it reaches the normal economy.

How can I repair my defenses?

They repair themselves 1% automatically every hour, though they do not repair while the base is occupied.

Recyclers

How to use Recyclers?

Just send the recyclers to the planet over which there is a debris field. Each recycler automatically will take 10 credits per hour from the debris pile.

How much debris is left after a unit has been destroyed?

If ships are destroyed during an attack, a percentage of the cost of the units destroyed will be converted to debris which will remain at the location of the attack. The percentage of debris left when a ship is destroyed is determined by the following formula: 2 x owner's Armour technology.

Players

How is a player's level calculated?

Player level = (economy x 100 + fleet + technology) ^ 0.25

Server NPCs

What is U.C. base stability?

United Colonies bases looses 3% stability every day at 00:00 server time. Once the base's stability reaches 0%, the base disbands (it can take a few minutes).

Inactivity

What will happen to my bases and fleets if I do not login regularly?

To help maintain the stability of the site, free accounts are deleted if players do not log in in after a period of 15 days.
Upgraded accounts do not have this limitation.
Deleting an account includes deletion of all things related to the account, including player bases, fleets, credits, etc...
However, when an account is deleted the bases can be turned in United Colonies.

If a player does not log in after a period of 4 days, that player stops getting income from bases until he logs in again.

How long does a player need to be inactive before this shows up in is profile?

If a player has not logged in for fourteen days, the red 'Inactive' mark will show up in their profile.

Graphic Package

I’m having problems with my graphic package, where I can get more information on this?

Try looking in the game forum for help with graphics packages - there is a wealth of information available both in the Help & Support forum and Artwork & Graphics Package forum. Player-developed skins are also available, which come with a variety of different images.

Others

I didn’t receive my empire income or debris collection!

It can happens when the server is very busy. Don’t worry, the server will give the credits a few minutes later.

Can a friend account sit for me?

No. With the advent of Vacation Mode ‘Account Sitting’ is no longer allowed in the game.

How do I report a game exploit?

Please contact us directly regarding that, you can see how to contact us in the contact page.
Important: Never share a game exploit with anyone, and always send us all related information about it directly to us.

Where I can make suggestion to improve game?

You can post any ideas or suggestions you may for the game in the game forum in the Feature Requests section - feel free to discuss it and other ideas there with other players. Note that while game staff do regularly read these topics, they do not always have time to reply.

How do I report a player cheating?

Please contact us directly with all the information you have regarding that, you can see how to contact us in the contact page.
What’s Server Time?

Server time is set to GMT+1. Battles, payments and all times in the game are recorded in server time. There is also a clock in the top centre of the screen that shows server time.

When do new galaxies / servers get added?

New galaxies are added once in a while in batches of 10 when the universe is getting too crowded. Servers are added about every six months.

Shared IPs

Why did I get a warning claiming that I was using a shared IP?

If you get a warning claiming we detected that your account is using a shared IP with someone else, it means one or more Astro Empires accounts are connecting to the Internet with the same IP as you.

Does this mean AE think I'm cheating?

Doesn't mean you are cheating and have a second account, just means you have the same IP address as other Astro Empires account(s).

Why do Astro Empires have this rules about shared IPs?

We forbide the use of shared IPs to prevent cheating and second accounts. We know sometimes it's a hard rule, but is in order to keep the game fair to all our players we need to impose this rule as most browser games does.

Why am I being accused of using a shared IP? I don't think I'm using one.

If you don't know why it's showing a shared IP it can be the following:

- Someone else at your home is playing aswell.
- You are logging to the game in a public network (school, work, library, cybercafe, hotel, airport, LAN party, etc), which shares the same internet connection (and same IP address) with all computers, and someone in that network plays Astro Empires aswell.
- You are using a public proxy server to connect to the internet.
- You logged to Astro Empires at a friend's house or allowed a friend to log in yours. Just once is enough to show in our system. If this is the case just don't do it again and it won't be a problem.
- Your ISP (internet service provider) uses shared IPs for some of their clients. In this case you should contact your ISP and ask, if possible, for a non-shared IP address.

What can I do if I'm caught using a shared IP?

If this happens you will need either to find a way to use an unique IP address or you'll have to request a special shared IP permission, indicating the reason why you are using a shared IP with other account(s) and comply with the following rules:

1) Your account must be upgraded (the first 7 days trial period doesn't count)
2) You are forbidden to attack, occupy bases or take debris from players with the same IP
3) You are forbidden to make joint attacks on bases with accounts with the same IP (one or more accounts attacking and another occupying the base or collecting the debris)
4) You are forbidden to transfer occupied bases to other players with the same IP

If you agree to comply with this 4 rules, you must then request a special IP permission by filling out this Form.

If you are playing with a friend in the same network, but can't comply with the rules above, then one of you must delete his account, so the other can continue to play.

Please bare in mind that if you stop using a shared IP your account will not be deleted, so you don't have to request a shared IP permission if you receive a warning, you just need to stop using shared IPs.

My account was suspended while I was absent from the game, what can I do now?

If your account is already upgraded you should contact us with your account number. If your account is free you will be required to upgrade in order to reactivate it. Don't take too long or your account might be deleted from our database.

Why do I have to upgrade my account to request a shared IP permission?

We require players to upgrade their accounts to minimize chances of people abusing this permission. Otherwise anyone could just claim to be playing with a family member and it would be too hard for us to be able to confirm that information. When a player requests a shared IP permission means we will be monitoring his account to prevent abuse and cheating, which requires an extra effort from our part, therefor it's only fair that we limit this option to paying customers.

What if I don't want or can't afford to upgrade my account? Can I still ask for a shared IP permission?

I'm afraid our rules are made equally for every single player in this game and we can't open any exceptions otherwise it would be unfair to everyone else. If you don't want or can't upgrade your account then you can't use shared IPs.

Is there any way to use the same IP for two accounts without having to request a special IP sharing permission?

Yes, you can play one account in one game server and the other in another server. You aren't allowed to use shared IPs in the same server, but you can use the same IP in different servers (one account per server). You can even have one account per server for yourself, doesn't need to be for someone else.

I was already granted a special IP sharing permission. Why am I receiving warnings?

This is certainly because you are not complying with all the rules for shared IPs, either your account is no longer upgraded or you are occupying a base from another player with the same IP. Please bear in mind that the special IP sharing permission is only valid while you comply with all the 4 rules we mentioned above.

I was already granted a special IP sharing permission. Why did the others using the same IP as me were suspended?

When you are granted a shared IP permission it's meant for you only. Any other players using the same IP as you will still have to request a shared IP permission for them selfs, or they will get suspended anyway.

How does this IP address thing works? I don't think anyone is using my IP.

It isn't the private IP that Windows grants you that matters, it's the public IP given by the router of that Internet connection.
Private IPs is what distinguishes computers inside a private local area network, such as a school, work office, LAN party, library, etc... Those IPs are only valid inside that network.
However, for that private network to connect to the global network (Internet) it needs a router which will provide an unique IP address for every single computer on that local network while they are on the Internet.
So it doesn't matter if noone is using your computer to play Astro Empires, as long as they use the same Internet connection as you they will have the same IP address as you.

I was granted a special shared IP permission for one game server. Will it be valid for other server as well?

No, as our game servers are completely independent.

If I stop using a shared IP will I still need to request a shared IP permission?

No, if you stop using a shared IP when you receive our first warnings you won't need to request a shared IP permission and your account won't be suspended. If your account is already suspended, then you will be required to upgrade in order to reactivate it, so make sure you fix the shared IP problem once you receive the first warning.

Can I know which accounts are sharing the same IP as me?

Due to privacy laws we can't share that information with anyone. The person(s) in question may not want you to know they are also playing at the same location as you.
